The first event of this series will be attended by:
– Grete Aagaard (Denmark) presenting the “Sigrids Stue” project
Sigrids Stue is an art project and a platform active in the neighbourhood Gellerup, Aarhus, Denmark. It develops projects in cooperation with both local, national and international partners. – Sine Lindholm and Mads-Ulrik Husum (Denmark), presenting the “Growroom” project and other projects in the field of engaged design
The Growroom is a spherical urban farm that enables people to grow their own food right on their doorstep. It strives to support our everyday sense of well-being in cities, creating a small oasis or architecture enabling a break in our dynamic social scenery, allows people to contact nature. Staying in Growroom we feel and taste the abundance of herbs and plants. The pavilion, built as a sphere, can stand freely in any context. Indicates the direction of development of contemporary architecture created for shared use.
– Samuel Kalika (Portugal), presenting the project “Critical Concrete”
Critical Concrete is an educational and social initiative that stands out of the regular dynamics of real estate development. It promotes new mechanisms to rehabilitate affordable housing and improve public and cultural spaces shared by low-income communities. It advocates a fundamental right to adequate housing, that is often disregarded due to lack of public resources or political regulation. Critical Concrete offers another dynamic to architecture: instead of building for, we build with.
–Inês Cavaco (Portugal), presenting project “Identidades – Movimento Intercultural”
Identidades is a movement initiated in 1996, realized in partnership with institutions operating in former Portuguese colonies. It includes a group of current and former students and teachers from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP), GESTO Cooperativa Cultural, other institutions, groups, and artists who actively identify themselves with its purposes.
The movement has a track record that gives meaning and support to its objectives, establishing a framework of continuous relationship with various entities in Mozambique, Northeast Brazil and Cape Verde. It is a condition that influences the direct communication with the people and their culture. The activities developed in this project have been diversified, in a spirit of interdisciplinarity, promoting artistic exchanges.
